To our Christian sisters and brothers here and around the world: peace be with you.

On this Easter Sunday, we were deeply anguished to hear about the terrorist attacks on churches in Sri Lanka. The numerous deaths and injuries are devastating. I am sure your community is in shock and pain, as are we.

Please know that the Muslim community holds you in our prayers. May the Merciful Creator give courage to the families of the victims to face this loss and may the injured recover to their full health.

This cowardly act of violence is inhumane and cannot go unpunished. Hate is consuming our world and it is imperative that all our faith leaders and communities stand against such hate without fear, and speak up even if it comes from within.

Please convey our deepest condolences to your congregations here and in Sri Lanka. May the services of Easter bring you solace.
