About the Event

  Active Bystander Training:

Anti Racism and Religious Bigotry

The Active Bystander Training is particularly relevant in the context of rising Islamophobia, as it equips participants with skills and knowledge to effectively intervene in such incidents. By understanding the historical and social contexts of racism and hate, including Islamophobia, participants learn how to recognize and safely address attacks. Integrating a session on the History of Racism at the start of the training event would lay a critical foundation for understanding the roots and pervasiveness of racism, including Islamophobia

About the trainer: Amber Rehman

A Lifelong Advocate for Change | Empowering Educator | Community Catalyst

With an enduring dedication spanning three decades, Amber Rehman is a lifelong social justice advocate. Amber’s journey began at the age of 14, fueled by an unwavering passion for disability advocacy and the creation of safe spaces through anti-bullying within education, giving lectures across high schools in Quebec. As time unfolded, she embarked on a profound path, recognizing the global hunger for representation and inclusivity.

In her most recent chapter, she's spent a decade moulding the minds of emerging leaders. By drawing from "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" and Stanford University's transformative "Designing Your Life" program, she's imparted crucial theories of leadership, nurturing the potential of each young spirit.

Guided by her experiences as a community advocate, she's rallied fervently for change. The intricate tapestry of her efforts finds vibrant expression through collaborations with the SMART Communities Foundation, the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee, and serving as a facilitator for St. Mary’s University Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
