About the Event

On January 29th, 2017, six Muslim men were shot and killed while nineteen were injured, some permanently, as they offered their evening prayers in the Quebec Mosque. Unfortunately, we continue to see the violent and deadly manifestations of islamophobia in Canada, both in rise of hate crimes and Hate speech. The federal government on January 2021 in honour of the victims, declared January 29 the Day of Action against Islamophobia Our goal for this Day of Remembrance and Action is to stand in solidarity against hate, violence racism and discrimination. As residents of Treaty 1 and home land of the Metis Nation we acknowledge that the Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island were the first to experience violence, oppression, discrimination, and racism in this country- we now call Canada. Together we can Defeat Hate with Knowledge and Compassion. Let us commit to building a kinder, gentler and just Canada. For information or to RSVP please contact Channah at: info@spcw.mb.ca .
